2) Safety Training : DIC Malaysia – Inculcating Safety in Every Aspect of the Workplace

Ensuring Safety at the Forefront of Operations

DIC Malaysia recently held external trainings to enhance the skills and knowledge of our team members, reinforcing our commitment to prioritizing safety in our work environments.

Part 1: Public Awareness Fire Safety Team Course (ERT)

This program was conducted by experts from the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia, Selangor (Bomba) and covered the following key aspects:

  • Fire Safety Management: The training focused on the 3E prevention concept – Engineering, Enforcement, and Education.
  • Fire Protection Systems: Participants gained insights into both passive and active fire protection systems, essential for ensuring workplace safety.
  • Understanding Legal Aspects: The training delved into the legal regulations governing fire prevention to ensure compliance.
  • Fire Safety Guide: Trainees learned about the fundamentals, including the fire triangle and the concept of fire spread.
  • Fire Extinguishing Techniques: Practical knowledge and procedures for using fire extinguishers were provided.
  • Emergency Response Planning: The course emphasized the importance of emergency response plans, building evaluation, and ERT responsibilities.
  • Hands-On Training: Practical sessions included guidance on handling fire hose reels effectively.

The firefighting training imparts crucial skills for workplace safety, encompassing legal compliance, a structured ERT organization based on Bomba’s recommendations, annual emergency evacuation drills, collaboration with the Fire and Rescue Department for drill oversight and enhancements, and intensive training for the fire-fighting team. These actions collectively enhance emergency response readiness, compliance, and the ability to effectively combat workplace fires.

Part 2: Effective Safety and Health Committee

Mr. Muhd Fadzil Ahmad, a seasoned HSE Consultant & Trainer with over 30 years of experience in technical disciplines, led this program, sharing comprehensive insights into safety and health committee responsibilities such as:

  • Legal Requirements: Understanding the legal aspects concerning the ESH committee, including the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 and its 2022 amendment, as well as the Safety Health Committee Regulation 1996.
  • Committee Functions: A detailed exploration of the committee’s functions, including safety performance measurement, complaint resolution, hazard identification, risk assessment, risk control, incident investigation, reporting, and workplace inspection.

Continuous learning and application of acquired knowledge and skills are pivotal for successfully integrating the concepts from both safety training sessions into daily tasks. This ensures that legal requirements are met, the Emergency Response Team (ERT) is optimally organized, annual emergency evacuation drills are performed, the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) provides valuable input for improvement, and ESH Committee responsibilities are effectively carried out.
